Sunrise Promises

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

For the past few years I have joined family and friends at Silver Lake Sand Dunes. While the dunes are often full of adrenaline and speed as visitors race over the sand, the evenings are a bit slower. People head out just before dusk to find the perfect spot to watch the sunset. There is something calming about watching the sun sink below the horizon.

Many people enjoy sunset watching, but watching the sunrise takes a bit more conviction. To enjoy the color and beauty of that phenomenon, requires awakening well before 6 am in the summer.

Whether you are a sunrise or sunset person there is something captivating about the process. It happens every single day. Whether the sky is clear and we can see it, or it is raining and cloudy, the sun still sets and rises. It is a constant.

In Lamentations Jeremiah finds hope and assurance in the sun’s consistency. Lamentations 3:22-23 say “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” With each rising of the sun, he is reminded of God’s faithfulness. He finds encouragement in the love and mercy God offers each new day, and we can too.

No matter what situations we face, whether exciting or difficult, joyful or painful, our Heavenly Father is faithful. Like the sun shining above us, he is there for us. When storms roll in and threaten our view he is still present, constantly by our side. His mercy and love for us never run out. Every sunrise brings more love and compassion. Every dawn brings his presence and strength to face the day. Every morning brings a fresh start. And each new day brings forgiveness and grace.

If you glimpse a sunrise or sunset this summer, pause to reflect on God’s presence. Let the beauty of God’s creation prompt you to trust in our Lord’s faithfulness.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We thank you for your constant love and faithfulness. We praise you for your glorious creation and the beauty of a sunrise and sunset. As we enjoy them this summer may we not just see a colorful sky but be reminded of your constant faithfulness. It is in your son’s name that we pray, Amen.
